In a development in "sorcery" murders in Papua New Guinea, police have appealed to the public not to take the law into its own hands following two incidents.

Last week, a man was charged with the torture of two elderly women in Mount Hagen, in the Western Highlands.

This followed the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in the town.
The women were alleged by some to have killed the girl through sorcery.
This week, two people have been charged with the February 6 murder of a young mother accused of being a witch.

She was set upon by a mob that burned her alive.
According to reports, a 28-year-old woman and 33-year-old man were charged with wilful murder after police rounded up 40 people for questioning.
