West Papuan football team Persipura Jayapura visits West Papua’s famous political prisoners, Filep Karma

West Papuan football team Persipura Jayapura has met with one of West Papua’s famous political prisoners, Filep Karma who is serving a 15 year jail sentence just for raising the West Papuan flag. He recently refused the Indonesian President’s offer of a pardon because he refuses to admit any wrongdoing in simply raising the West Papuan flag.

Persipura Jayapura is renowned football team which has won the Indonesian Super League 3 times. They have been recently banned by the Indonesian national league from playing games overseas, including with the Asian Football Confederation because the Indonesian authorities were worried that the team would promote the Free West Papua cause overseas.

This week, Persipura Jayapura met with Filep Karma, showing the world the national solidarity West Papuans have for him and all political prisoners in West Papua who are in jail just for wanting to be free.
